A statistically based method for selecting the Most Valuable Players from the three Major League grades has been endorsed by the NBA Board recently.

Under the system players from both teams are competing for a maximum of three points per game, with the top three performers being allocated MVP points on a 3-2-1 basis.

Individual players are assessed according to the following criteria and awarded a score;

  • Hitting: 1B*1 2B*2 3B*2 HR*2 RBI*1 SAB*1 SAF*1 BB*0.5 K*-1 SB*0.5 GDP*-1 CS*-1
  • Fielding: PO*.1 A*0.3 E*-1
  • Pitching: INN*1.5 H*-1 SO*0.5 BB*-0.5 WP*-0.5 ER*-1 HPB*-1
  • Catching: PB*-0.2 SBA*-0.2 CCS*1.2
This score is then ranked from highest to lowest and the 3-2-1 points are awarded to the top three.

The MVP points are accumulated as the season progresses and the player with the most MVP points is crowned the Most Valuable Player for their grade.
